June 25th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Hello everybody it’s Juliana and you’ve might of read my other blogs and this is my blog post about Snow Leopards (and there such cute wild animals besides cats in my opinion). So I hope you all enjoy reading my blog post about Snow Leopards. I’ve got the information from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_Leopard

The Snow Leopard lives in rugged mountain ranges found in central and south Asia and the mountains approximately is 1,230,000 square kilometers which extends through 12 countries! and they are India, Afgahnistan, Buthan, China, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tajistan, and Uzbekistan. Snow leopards are solitary animals and they are carnivores. However there size is smaller than other ‘big cats’ there description: They weigh between 27- 54 kg there body lengths reach between 74- 130cm. Snow leopards have such big furs there fur color is grayish and yellowish and tan fur ears are round but not really round but on the tips of the ears there round. They have black spots but have larger spots on there cute fat fluffy tails :) .

Snow leopards like I said earlier are carnivores but Snow leopards they eat whatever meat they find! so they eat anything as long as it’s meat! they even eat domesticated farm stock! They are endangered animals.

-Cute Snow leopard. With snow leopard cub yawning. :D

Fun and Annoying Things to do

Fun and Annoying things to do

WARNING!!!! – When you suck in helium, don’t try to talk in a high pitch voice, talk normally.

WARNING!!!! – Don’t suck in too much helium. Max – half a balloon.

WARNING!!!! – Don’t suck helium right from the tank. Suck it out of a helium balloon.

Fun things to do when you suck in helium:

  • Laugh. (You will actually laugh for real after that)
  • Start beat boxing or rapping.
  • Shout.
  • Go down a slide or go on a swing so you scream.
  • Tell jokes that you have never heard with a friend. (Funny jokes)
  • Sing. (Better if you sing a song with low notes.)

DANGER!!!! – Don’t try too many at once.(or else you will be in serious trouble)

I found a youtube video of someone singing when they sucked in helium. Here is another video.

How to annoy your parents:

  • When one of your parents is busy, keep saying mom, or dad over and over again, and when they finally say ‘what!’ say never mind. After that, do the whole thing over and over again.
  • When they say you can’t do something keep begging them until they say yes.
  • When they are helping you write sentences about or with a certain word, when they say ‘um….’ (they are thinking) write ‘um….’ and when they are finished saying the sentence, read it out to them with the um’s.

I will think of more over the summer and post them.

Brine Shrimp X-periment!!!!

June 3rd, 2009 · 1 Comment

Brine Shrimp

The most interesting and my favorite experiment in science was the Brine Shrimp (Sea Monkeys) because in all the schools Ive been to Ive never actually been able to grow and raise a real living creature.

We were trying to find out the range of tolerance and optimum salt conditions for brine shrimp to grow in. To answer this question we had to set up an experiment. The experiment consisted of three bowls all the same size with brine shrimp eggs in them, also each bowl was filled with 150ml of water. Over the next few days we observed them.

We found, in the end 0 spoons didn’t grow, 2 spoons grew quite well, 4 spoons grew the best and 6 spoons didn’t grow. The optimum amount of salt was four spoons. The range of tolerance for the brine shrimp was two to four spoons of salt. But unforunately when the experiment was over all the brine shrimp died!!! (Sad isn’t it).

Here are some pictures:

The Terrarium Science Experiment

June 3rd, 2009 · No Comments

My favourite science experiment was the terrarium one. It was my favourite because we got to grow plants and it was fun to plant them and watch them grow and putting the soil and rocks in and put the water in. The thing I didn’t like about it was that we had to write the observations. It was to bad that our group’s died. I think that we put too much water. So because of that we had to restart. Our group’s terrarium was doing great until we had to take the top of so the plants wouldn’t scrunch up. Since that happened our terrarium isn’t doing so well (Sad, I know).

We grew barley, pea, radish, corn, and clover. All of them grew except for barley. I think it didn’t grow because the heat in Thailand is so hot. I think barley is good in cold weather but not too cold. If it were colder in Thailand I think they could have survived.

This was a really good experiment, if YOU get the chance to do it, try it.

June 3rd, 2009 · 1 Comment

I came to ISB at August. First month is so hard because I can’t understand what teacher said, but Shunsuke is in my classroom. He can speak English little bit so that is so helpful to me.

Do you have problem of this kind?

Brine Shrimp experiment-Allen

June 3rd, 2009 · No Comments

We did a really cool experiment this last few weeks.

Day 1-7

It was the brine shrimp experiment. First we 4 cups each had the same amount of water and the same amount of brine shrimp eggs, but different amounts of salt. There was one with 0 spoons of salt, 2 spoons of salt, 4 spoons of salt, and 6 spoons of salt. At first day 2 spoons of salt had hatched, but the next day 4 spoons had hatched more.

Day 8-10

On day 8 we decided to keep 2 spoons of salt and dump 4 spoons out to feed to the fish at the ponds in ISB. We added 100 ml of water to 6 spoons of salt and we added 4 spoons of salt to 0 spoons of salt. Also we seated up a cup with the same amount of water and the same amount of brine shrimp eggs, but we added 2 spoons of salt to it. On day 10 we had a 2 litter bottle with the top cut off. We put three different types of salt in the bottle. Then we added 1 litter of bottled water in the cup and we let it mellow.

Blackle, saving the earth?:P

June 3rd, 2009 · 4 Comments

We Can Change the future!!!!!

Yes the website says that it saves a couple million watt hours. The home page is black and it is definitively black and when you type something and search it the page is still black. But Blackle is not that perfect. Once you click on the link it turns white like Google because it is the information from Google. Blackle is just like Google except there are no images and when you get to the page with the information is not “black” anymore. Are they working in an idea to make all the pages black? They should because you spend the most time on the page with the information but that page is white and not saving energy. I understand why they don’t have pictures, probably because they can’t make the pictures black. People would complain they wouldn’t go on Blackle. Blackle would lose money and people would not be helping the Earth. But at least they could make the page with the information black.  Blackle on Twitter is saving more energy because since Blackle is writing on it, it’s black and saving more energy. But if you go to Twitter from Google it is not black because Blackle is not on it. I hope Blackle finds a way to make all the pages black to save more energy!!!!

HOPE THIS INSPIRED YOU TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!!!(the world needs to be a better place)

The Best thing Ever!!-Emma

June 2nd, 2009 · No Comments

Hello again! I just finished a book yesterday which was one of the best books ever! Read more to learn more!

In my opinion, I think that the best movie and book is, drum roll please, TWILIGHT!!!!!  It is like every girl’s favorite thing, well in our class of course and in some other classes.  At first when my friends talked about I had no clue what they were talking about until my friend invited me over and we watched it together. When she turned it off, I nearly screamed it was so good. And even for my birthday I got the book! Now I love it!!  One of my favorite parts of the book and movie, was the baseball scene. they played this awesome music, and had a amazing pitcher, Alice! Ugh, it was so good!!!!!! Right now I am going to tell you a little about the Cullens and Bella! (the main characters) By the way, they are all foster kids, except for Bella, so some of them will be boyfriend and girlfriend with each other, but that is just because they are not really brother and sister.

Bella-Pretty, tomboy, new in school, parents are divorced, shy, sporty, nice

Edward- Fast, strong, handsome, protective, reads minds, vampire

Alice- Nice, pretty, sweet, sporty, great baseball pitcher, a girlfriend to Jasper, loves fashion, likes throwing parties, can see the future, fast, strong, vampire

Jasper- Shy, sporty, a boyfriend to Alice, fast, strong, vampire

Rosaline- Pretty, not very helpful, good at baseball, snob, a girlfriend to Emmett, fast, strong, vampire

Emmett-Bald, a boyfriend to Rosaline, nice, helpful, fast, strong, vampire

Now you know all about the Cullens and Bella. Well. to learn even more, watch the movie. And for boys if you like sports watch the movie because there is an awesome baseball scene!!!

By the way, this is where I got the information.

=) Emma!

Elementary School – Middle School (my thoughts)

June 2nd, 2009 · 6 Comments

Do you feel great being in 5th grade? I do! =)

It feels great being a 5th grader, being at the head of elementary. Everyone looking up to you, you feel like a leader. But then, when you move up to middle school you might feel like you’re in Pre K. We are the first grade in middle school, and then we have to look up to the 8th graders. (I think)The magic of having leadership is gone! Sad right? 5th Grade is going to be a memorable grade for me, until we go to 8th grade, and then 12th grade, and so on. Also, the higher grade we are in the harder work we will get! :( But, thanks to my friend Gwen, she showed me this website that might help solve your worries! For example, lockers, changing classes, and more! Middle School Survival

I can already see it on a newspaper, 5th grade, a grade I will never forget!

Stormbreaker

June 1st, 2009 · 4 Comments

Stormbreaker

The best book Ive ever read is Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz. It is about a teenage boy named Alex Rider who gets recruited by the MI6–Britain’s top secret intelligence agency. From teenage Alex he becomes teenage spy and sets off on an action-packed mission. I really like the book because its has so much suspense, action, explosions and I coudn’t stop reading till I reached the last page. I really recommend the book ( YOU WILL LOVE IT!!! ) and when you’ve finished the book you can read the rest of the awesome series: Point Blank, Skeleton Key, Eagle Strike, Scorpia( My second favorite! ), Ark Angel and Snakehead. Plus after your done with Stormbreaker you can watch the great movie of it ( Operation Stormbreaker )- Ive watched it so many times and you never get tired of it. Trust me the book is like nothing you have ever read before.

If you have anymore questions about the book please comment.
