Moving Up
Moving from 4th grade to fifth grade is like moving to a new country or state, and I’ll tell you why.
Just like in any other grade, your teacher and his or her rules change, so that’s like moving from house to house.
Also when you move up your subjects get harder too, and in some cases stranger, but once again your teachers might also let you do some fun things too because you’ll be older and they can trust you, so that’s like the big move.
Now a hard thing is your friends, we all know at the beginning of the year new students come and we find out who left. And your friend might like some of the new kids and and not be your best friend anymore but still your friends and that’s like getting settled.
So that’s how it’s like moving.

Cereal experiment
I’m going to talk about a science experiment we did in science class this semester. What we were trying to find out was , how much sugar do different types of cereal contain.
#1. What we did 1st was took three Ziploc bags and put 3 grams of different cereal in each bag. For example we put cheerios in on bag and koko crunch in another and so on.
#2. Next we took 2 spoons of yeast and put that in each bag (2 spoons per bag).
#3.Then we took a syringe filled with 50ml of water and put that in each bag (50ml per bag).
#4.then we mashed the cereal up.
#5.What we did next was filled a medium size container with water at 35-50 degrees Celsius.
#6.Then we put all 3 bags of cereal in the water for 10 min then we took one bag out at a time after 10 min and measured the amount of air that was in the bags, because (sugar+yeast=air) the more air there is means the more sugar there is.
#7.Then we put all the bags back in for another ten minutes and did the same thing. And that’s how we found out how much sugar different types of cereal hold.
The materials you need to do the experiment are:
· Water
· Yeast
· Water boiler
· Balancer
· 3-4 Ziploc bags
· Medium size container
· 3-4 different types of cereal(they can be the same type but should be a different brand )

“Hello all, Jacob here. Today I went on an interview with Gavin, what I was trying to find was some good baseball tips for you but I’m not an expert. Fortunately Gavin is. So if there is anybody out there who wants to know good tips for baseball, this is the post for you. Here was our exact conversation:
“Do you need to work with teammates to win a game?”
“Yes”
“Are you good at fielding or batting?”
“I gotta say fielding”
“What is your favorite position”
“Center field because you can slide and dive for the ball”
“What is your favorite team?”
“St.Louis Cardinals”
“How do your friends think towards baseball?”
“They like it as much as me”
“Do you play baseball often?”
“No”
“How do you hit the ball far?”
“The way I do it is I look at the ball and swing as hard as I can at it”
“What ways are there to win a game?”
“When one team gets more points then the other until times out”
So that was a great list of baseball tips. Now everybody give a round of applause to Gavin! If any of your questions still were not answered leave a comment with your question and Ill see if he can answer them in a new post.

Stinger By: Gavin
“Dude guess what?” I am going swimming with the dolphins!” And guess, “What else I’m doing?” I said with excitement while walking down the hall to my locker. “ I’m also going I’m going scuba diving” I said as I shut my locker raucously.
Riiiiiiiiiiing Riiiiiiiiiing “dude I got to go or else I’m going to be late” I said while turning around starting to run to class. “Josh your tardy again, one more equals detention” my teacher said while looking at the rest of the class, taking attendance. I sprinted here and besides how did she/it know it was me, what if it was a janitor. As I walked to my desk, Samantha walked in and the teacher said, “ Try to be here on time sweetie” in the nicest voice ever.
It was two days later and we had just landed in one of the many islands of the Philippines’. “This is where were staying?!” I said while I looked out the window of the plane, I was starring at an abandon house. “ We just have to drive a bit” said my mom. “a lot” I coughed as we got off the plane while doubting theres even a car in this deserted place. As we arrived at the hotel my dad said excitedly “ here we are” .”Huh.” I asked
When we got to our destination I stepped out of the car and I thought I saw something green zip by . Could that have been a leprechaun. Unfortunately it wasn’t it was just a short kid (very short) dressed in green. “Hi my name is Bo and my dad runs the place” he said happily. “Wow, don’t ever do that again, or else I’m gonna have to kick ya” I said while taking deep breaths.
Two days later something happened. “Knock! Knock!” “Who is it?” I yelled while walking to the door. It was that bo kid “What do ya want?” I said while looking at Bo? “Do you wanna go swimmin?” he said, while jumping up and down in the soft sand. “Wait you guys have a pool here” I asked like I hadn’t seen water in a thousand years. “No silly pants we swim in the ocean” he said like daffy duck from loony toons. They swim in danger, with sharks and whales, wait a tic if I swim in the ocean I might have something to brag about when I get back I thought to myself while taking a deep, hard stare at the ocean from the doorway. “Ok ok I’ll go” acting like there’s nothing to worry about as I walked back to get changed slowly. Meanwhile Bo was already in the water horsing around. “Hey Bo maybe we should do this, another day I’m getting kinda sleepy” I said while looking in the water. “Com’n it’ll be fun, just try it!“ bo said encouragingly“ Ok” I said while I slowly entered the ice cold water. “Ok it’s not that baaaahhhh” I screamed while running in circles repeatedly trying to get out of the water. SPLOOOOSH!
“Whe… Where am I”, said while looking at the ceiling with only one eye open. “In your bed maybe” my mom said with a little laughter. “Oh my gosh what’s that smell?” it smells like vinegar,” I said while looking at my left leg. Out of nowhere Bo said “ you fainted and I dragged you up here all by myself. “Fainted from what?” I asked. A jellyfish Bo said like a haunting Homer Simpson. Now that your awake, start packing. ”Why” I asked. “Because there’s no hospital in 10,569.58 miles away. “I need to go to the hospital, for what” I said while still lying on my bed. As I sat up or at least tried too, my arm was in deep pain. Meanwhile, my mom was in the kitchen cooking dinner. In one of the other rooms my dad and Mr.Udaguda (Bo’s dad) were packing my packing my parents clothes. As I lied on my bed staring at the ceiling, I thought of something. I do have something to brag about when I go back and my proof is on my arm.
The next day we got on a plane and right before the doors no the plane shut, Bo “your coming back right?” “I hope” I said.
After I got out of the hospital and the doctors said there was nothing wrong we went straight home and I called one of my friends because I couldn’t call them from the island I told them about everything and Bo. A couple years later we went back to the same place for vacation and I didn’t get stung, I just ate what i got stung by.

Hello my name is Gavin and I’m going to teach you some historical reading strategies. I’m going to refer to Crispin The Cross Of Lead written by AVI. One strategy I’m going to is ( think about what you already know about this time period to help make sense of the story). The other strategy I’m going to talk about is (think about the supporting characters role). First I’m going to talk about the time period of Crispin. In Crispin you’ve got to know more than a little to understand the story. In Crispin this strategy is pretty important. A time when I used this strategy was by using it throughout the whole story because this story took place back in the 1300’s. In the 1300’s the words they used were way different from the words we use today, for example they used contrary and we use opposite. So now you can probably see why this strategy is pretty important. Now I’m going to talk about my 2nd strategy. This strategy isn’t that important but is helpful in this novel. In Crispin you have to think which supporting characters role is bad or good because there’s a couple supporting characters. You have to think about the choices Crispin make because some characters aren’t supporting him they’re trying to trap him. So the role of some of the people are good and some are bad and that makes this novel more interesting.

On the run is a 6 book series. I recommend this series for people who like to read action books. It’s about a brother and a sister who’s parents get framed and sent to prison. In every book they get closer and closer to what they need, then the one and only obstacle comes in “police”. You can start on what ever book you want and you will pretty much have the story in your head. The book I thought was the best out of the whole series was Public Enemies or Hunting The Hunter. But that is my opinion; maybe yours is different. http://images.barnesandnoble.com/images/13770000/13778728.JPG

This is my essay on Benjamin Franklin:
Who do you think of when you hear the word “explorer”? Most people think of Columbus and Magellan, but did you know Benjamin Franklin is an explorer. I can prove he is an explorer because he is an inventor and he was hungry for knowledge.
Most explorers are usually inventors. Franklin invented the lightning rod. He got the idea from people who made electrical fire on his journey to Boston. That gave him an idea. The way he invented the lightning rod was by flying a kite during a storm while touching a key to the kite and BAM! Lightning struck the kite just as planned. In addition he invented the Franklin Stove. The Franklin Stove was invented to heat up houses. B. Franklin made the stove so heat came out in 4 different places. In addition he made the stove so you don’t have to use that much firewood. Another example is he invented the modern library. The modern library was invented to borrow books not to buy books. The reason he invented the modern library was because, you shouldn’t have to pay to read books, and because he was hungry for knowledge.
Explorers are usually hungry for knowledge. Franklin was hungry for knowledge was because in the 1700’s there wasn’t TV or computers; there was only books. The reason he read all day was because he wasn’t old enough to be a printer and he was bored to death. Soon he read every English book there was. He also taught himself to write by looking in the London magazines then cutting out sentences and rearranging them.
Benjamin Franklin is an explorer because he is an inventor and because he was hungry for knowledge, now do you think Franklin is an explorer?

When I was at the ancient city I was an explorer. the reason I was an explorer is when we were riding our bikes we were exploring, when we were looking for the treasure we were exploring, and when we were listening to the instructor we were exploring. http://www.flickr.com/photos/isbes/3115693678/in/set-72157611322546636/
